Hi Mark. Noticed the league's gone a bit funny and you've not been about lately. I hope everything's ok. Hope to see you back soon :o)

What happened to the games? Have they stopped?

Hi Mark thanks for the comment. The tough part is that I lost my job and have no health or dental insurance and it's been difficult getting a new job looking the way I do and not being able to speak.
I am going through with the competition, in fact as soon as I got home from the ER with my mouth and gums still bleeding and before taking my pain meds I e-mailed my coach (couldn't call since I couldn't speak) and asked him what to do about my diet since I could only take in liquids. Well, it gives me time to train and I am going to worry about getting a job after the competition. My bills are going to have to wait.

Hey Mark, I just entered in my workouts and it's still showing my workouts as pending for the Cardio Challenge. Why is this?

Sorry I disappeared. Getting the next round of BL up and running took a lot out of my extra time :-) I forgot both weeks to get my exercise in before the deadline :-(. At least I did exercise, but my weights been up and down. So, I'm ready to get serious about this thing again. Summer's too soon, and I'd like to lose some weight this year! :-) Hope you're doing good - adjusting to the baby and all?

Hi Mark.
Don't forget to put your measurements in this week!
I noticed my spark league game is still showing as last weeks- I've noticed before that there has been a delay in the spark games updating, but this week it doesn't seem to have updated at all. I wondered if I had a bye week, but that doesn't seem to be it. Please can you fix it if you have time? Thanks :o)

Hi Mark.
Consider it a transition period, not the way of things to come. You've had a setback here but I'm sure you'll soon be back on track. Try not to leave work ravenously hungry, and have lighter snacks on hand or maybe make dinner in a slow cooker (crockpot) so it's ready when you get back. It'd be good to have a little ritual for winding down after work that doesn't involve chips! Sometimes finding a distraction during that danger zone when you first get in can be enough. I bet you know all this anyway but sometimes it's nice to have a reminder :o)
I'm using the new financial year as a fresh start.

Hi Mark.
I was wondering, is there a way to put on an estimated/actual calorie intake for the day without putting individual foods in? If not, would it be possible to add this feature, please? I know you're really busy but I thought it was worth asking in case it's a quick thing you could add. I find the pages take a long time to load on my laptop so it would be cool if there was a quick way. Also my friend "bsidewinsagain" would like to use this feature if it was available. Thanks :o)

Looks like it's a perfect match. I've been going downhill for a while. I haven't been challenging myself, and I just came off a REALLY crappy month in the BLC challenge. Lucky the people who made my life miserable have left the challenge, and I should be able to refocus on ME and MY journey, and not on a bunch of DRAMA. I need to figure out how to mix up my workouts, but how to do that without dropping any tennis will be a challenge....but I'm really sick of having negative points every week. So, I hope you know I totally understand where you're coming from, and maybe we can both climb out of this hole together :-)

Love the family picture! I commented on some of your pictures, but all the comments say they were done by YOU! :-) haha Hey, I wanted to know if there was an easy way to have the exercise summary say how many minutes the workouts were. It's kinda a pain if I forget to write it down to have to go back and get that info. Not that you're not busy or anything... :-) Thanks Mark!

Hi Mark,
Thanks for your words of encouragement about the marathon. I just discovered the comments at the bottom of my player page!
Congratulations on your new son! He's beautiful.

Eh -- I think because the data is all managed manually, it would probably be more difficult to add people back in and take them back out. If someone notifies me that they're going to miss some weigh-ins, they just stay at a maintain until they come back. If they don't and they miss, then they're dropped to "floater" status so I no longer have to track them. I want everyone to report in, don't get me wrong, but I really enjoy the team the most towards the ends of the challenges because we've kind of reduced the team to those who are active and participating the most. :)

Thanks Mark,
I would love to meet someone while in school who was as patient as your wife but I'm not holding my breath. I'm not too worried about it though, all in due time. Congrats on all you have accomplished in your life, when you have the motivation and the support you need, you can do almost anything. Glad to hear you are keeping your health in the forefront, I have heart issues in my family history so I'm staying on top of things so that I don't have to deal with it at a young age like my brother and father have. Congrats on your baby boy, I'm a little late but haven't had time to really read profiles till today. LOL
Take care,
Rich

Thanks! I'm doing TONS of exercise, mostly cardio, so I'm REALLY happy to see progress! I've GOT to get more strength training in, but the cardio is so easy! :-)
Congrats on your new baby! I'm really excited for you! You'll be a little tired and swamped for a few weeks I'm sure, but I gotta thank you again for all the hard work you do, and devote to this site! I love, love, love it! I'm really glad I did decide to take you up on this challenge last month, because it really is a HUGE motivation for me.

What a lucky kid, to come into this world and be a part of such a loving family. Mark, you are going to be a great role model for this young man. I appreciate how well you speak of your wife. There is love and respect every time you mention her. And I know that you will also be able to encourage him because you have shown each of us support and encouragement here on grip iron and on BLC5.

Hey Friend! Starting to wonder if you've made that trip to the hospital and are a new Daddy now. When you get time, give me an update. I've been nice so far and haven't even given you heck about beating your arse this last week...lol. Take care.

Hey Mark!
Been triathlon-ing since 1999. On and off, mostly on. Seems to be my M.O. that whenever I do an Ironman, I end up taking a year off, and then getting the itch again and getting back into it. I have done 2 Ironmans so far (Great Floridian - www.greatfloridian.com). Both great experiences. 11:39 for the first and a 13:20 on the second. Not thrilled with the last one, so I have a bit of a score to settle. Have my coach working on that with me. I train with Lee Zohlnman from BodyZen (www.BodyZen.com). Great coach.
Other than Ironmans, I have done all the other distances - tons of sprints, a handful of Olympic/Internationals, and 2 Half-Ironmans. The key to any of the races is the key to any fitness-related goal...anyone can do it...focus on teh goal, eat well, and train right.
See you on the road!

Hey Mark!!
Buddy!! I just started getting a chance to start reading through and get more involved with the sight. Your story is one of motivation and inspiration. Keep telling it, Bro!
As for this week coming up, there is no luck, just like there are no coincidences <luckily there is spell check>. Anyways, you have a lot of people rooting you on, as well as your wife and your unborn child! Try to get to the grocers before you head to the hospital so you can put a few handsful of healthy snacks in your mouth before you xcross over the line in the building where eating is not allowed (and otherwise a pretty bad idea). Remember that the reason we make bad eating choices is because we run out of obvious good coices (i.e. we get hungry and the vending machine is closer than an organic market). Keep the good choices close by and you will continue with your great results.
Best of luck this week with your family, first, then with your competition.
Oh!! If you are in South Florida and need help putting a tri team together, let me know. The swim is usually the hardest part of the tri to do for newbies, so finding you a swimmer-less team shouldn't be too tough.
Cheers!
Alex Figueroa

DARN my measurements! I day late, a dollar short! I could have wiped the floor with you! :-) hehe It was fun competing with you last week. Has me more motivated this week too. :-)

Yeah, we did it! Made it through a whole day of logging meals. Now if I can just get myself to find the time to report each exercise I complete instead of just calling it general exercise. That's next week goal. :)
|
|
|
Thanks! It was pretty tough...I had a nice walking/running combo going on. Took me 2 hours and 47 minutes which was under my 3 hour goal! My ankle is hurting and add my foot to that too! You should try for the half, you don't have to run the whole time :)
|
|
|
Yup, logging my meals. I really hate counting calories but I find that I make more improvements when I do calorie count. I am really liking the log set up here. Particularly the % of each fat, protein, and carb. I use to do all that by hand. It's nice to not have to do that. Although, I starting to realize that I have been really slacking on the protein. Need to work on that!

Hey Friend,
Soooo excited to hear about the success of the Expo this weekend. Looks like your headed in an upward direction and that's got to be a great feeling. I'm anxiously awaiting to hear more about it...hit me up when you have time.

Hey, Mark. Thanks so much for the warm welcome when I joined. I'm looking forward to getting into the mix of things this week and ending that unranked status of mine. Hope the weekend has been a good one!

Hey Mark, I didn't realize that I was leading with waist points per game. Thanks for pointing it out. It's nice to know I am first at something. Feeling a bit discouraged at times when I see how many workouts others are getting in and watching there fat melt off. I am making some improvements just slowly.
I do want to let you know that I really like how you can see all your measurements throughout the week all line up next to each other. At a time when I don't feel like I have made any improvements, it's easier to see the improvements that I really have made by looking at all my measurements. Did that make sense?

HI MARK! :) I'm zircadia on SparkPeople.com as well, your Golden Gladiators Team Captain. This year I was really wanting to focus on improving my body composition rather than just measuring weight loss, so THANK YOU for creating this. :) It is really great and I'm really enjoying it so far. I haven't competed with anyone yet (until now! OOOOH), but the tracking and numbers for Body Fat % etc has been really useful for me. :D

Hey, Mark, just wanted to let you know that I had to leave SP because I don't have time to keep up with that and Gripiron. I am planning a friends baby shower in March and my wedding in May. Needless, to say I am busy. I will try to keep up with things here. I am surprised that I am able to even keep up with my workouts. But then again I do have great motivation with getting married and all. -Amy

I will say this: GripIron has helped me keep track how my workouts and efforts have translated into visible health improvements. The friendly competition is a great way to motivate ourselves. We are not experts on how to improve our physical conditions, but by joining this community, I've been able to see what others are doing with their diets, their workout habits and use that information to get myself in shape! Thanks GripIron!
