In the GripIron Fitness Challenge players compete to improve their fitness levels. Players are scored based on their amount of improvement and effort not their level of fitness. So everyone has a fair chance to win.

How does the GripIron Fitness Challenge work?
Every week players score points as follows:

Fat Score 10 points for every pound of fat lost
Lean Tissue Score 10 points for every pound of lean tissue gained
Waist Score 60 points for every inch lost
Workout Score 3 points for every workout reported - up to 60 points per week.

Every player must first qualify by reporting at least one measurement set (weight, body fat%, and waistline). After qualifying players start out ranked near the bottom of the rankings the following week. Ranked players compete weekly in one-on-one games against other ranked players. Winners move up in the rankings. Losers move down. The top two players compete every week to become the reigning league champion.

Is this a weight loss contest?
Not exactly. The focus is not on losing weight, rather it is on improving one's body composition. Losing weight may not be every player's goal. Plus, the key is to lose the right kind of weight - fat. Nobody wants to lose muscle or water. So we use a scoring system that emphasizes body composition and allows players with different goals to compete together.

Why take the Challenge?
Competition makes getting fit more fun and will motivate you to stay on course. The key to winning is focusing on modest improvements. Small steps will lead to large leaps. The toughest part for most of us is to stay motivated. That's where the GripIron Fitness Challenge comes in. The competition and support of other players will help you stay motivated and on track.

What can I win?
Besides winning a better you, you can win money for the charities of your choice. GripIron Fitness, Inc. makes donations every four weeks based on the fitness improvements and input of players like you. The more games you win, the more say you have in where the money goes. Where can I see the scores?
Click on the scoreboard and standings tabs at the top of the page to see how you and the other players are doing.

How much does it cost?
It's 100% free.

When is the best time of day to take my measurements?
For the most accurate measurements, take your measurements in the morning before eating or drinking any fluids. If mornings don't work for you, at least try to take your measurements about the same time of day consistently. It is recommended but not required that players also enter body water perctenage as this may reduce fluctations in their scores.

How often should I take measurements?
You are only required to take your measurements once a week. But since we always give you the benefit of the doubt when it comes to fluctuations, you should take your measurements a few times a week for the best scores. Some studies have shown that people who take basic measurements daily do better. But if you miss a day or two don’t sweat it. The point behind daily measurements is to observe trends over a period of time, not to obsess over every daily change. In any natural progression there will be variance. Your progress will not be in a straight line. But the more points that you plot the better you will be able to see the direction you are going. And by focusing on small improvements from week to week, you can accomplish big things.

What equipment do I need?
The only equipment you need to take the GripIron Fitness Challenge is a measuring tape and body fat scale. You can purchase these in our online store. There are many scales on the market that measure body fat percentage. For the most consistent measurements use the same scale every time you measure.

How should I train?
Your training regiment is up to you. You can train any way you like. You choose what you eat and how you exercise. This allows players with different skills, goals, and training methods to compete together to improve their fitness. We encourage players to train together or with a partner to help keep each other motivated.

How do I track my progress offline?
We understand that you are not always near a computer. That's why we created the GripIron Fitness Journal. The GripIron Fitness Journal is printable journal for logging your fitness activities and results. Should I take any photos?
In the photos section of your player page, you can upload before and after photos to share your progress with others. So you may want to take some photos now before you begin your transformation.
